BBBSCNNJ provides one-to-one mentoring for youth ages 6-18 through our Community Based, School-Based, Workplace, College, Bigs in Blue, Kids Club, and Back on Track Programs. By placing children in a quality mentoring relationship, we are able to provide them with the tools they need to become competent, con?dent, and caring members of their community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the premier one-to-one mentoring organization. Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children who are facing emotional, social, and academic challenges.

In our Community-Based Program, We recruit, screen, and train caring adults who volunteer to be "Bigs", either a Big Brother or Sister, who has a long-term, supervised mentoring relationship with a child aged 6-17, a "Little." Bigs pick up their Littles at least twice a month to share an activity - watching a movie, going to the library, baking cookies, playing basketball - something that both the Big and Little have an interest in and enjoy doing. Our programs have the added dimension of a professional case management staff that provides referrals when needed and work with parents, the volunteer, and the child to help the relationship thrive and endure. Big Brothers Big Sisters also provides activities throughout the year for all children in our programs, whether they already have a mentor or are in our Kids' Club waiting to be matched with a Big.

In addition to community-based mentoring, BBBS has School-Based, Workplace, and College Mentoring programs where students are matched with mentors to learn more about the transition to high school or college, professional development and workplace opportunities, and overall building friendships with a positive older mentor. BBBS also has a diversion program, "Back on Track," for youth involved in the juvenile justice system who could use a group of mentors to discuss strategies for working towards a positive future.

BBBS also offers wraparound services for all youth and families in our program, regardless of program type, where our Case Managers are ensuring access to resources, community support, food security, and recreational opportunities in the area.

Eligibility To be a Community Based mentor: 19 years or older, possession of a valid driver's license, car insurance, access to a car, and ability to commit to a year long friendship, where they see their Little twice a month for 2-4 hours each time. To enroll a child in our program, the child must be between the ages of 6-17, willing to participate and be engaged in the friendship with their mentor, ability to commit to a year long friendship.
