Many of the recovery services we provide are rooted in the guiding values and principles of Psychiatric Rehabilitation such as Supported Education and Supported Employment. But what exactly does the term “Psychiatric Rehabilitation” mean?

In this webinar, providers will understand:

  • The meaning of Psychiatric Rehabilitation.
  • The guiding values and principles of Psychiatric Rehabilitation.
  • How can we use these values/principles in our everyday work to better support the people we serve.

Trainer: Derek Malenczak, MS, CPRP, LCADC

Derek Malenczak received his master’s degree in Psychiatric Rehabilitation from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2008 and joined the Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation & Counseling Professions at Rutgers University as a faculty member in 2012. After working for 13 years in community mental health agencies providing recovery-oriented services to adults with mental health conditions, Derek successfully transitioned to academia. He worked for three years as a Cognitive Specialist doing grant-based research related to executive functioning skill development for college students with mental health conditions. Currently Derek is a full-time lecturer, enrolled in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation PhD program in his Department, and has a variety of research interests related to supporting college students in recovery, including innovative online pedagogical strategies and Supported Education interventions.
