Eliza Factor will discuss her book, Strange Beauty: A Portrait of My Son (2017), a unique and hopeful story of how one woman and her family were transformed by her child’s multiple disabilities and inability to talk and how she transformed a community. Her son, Felix, has brain damage, most likely caused by chicken pox which Ms. Factor contracted while she was pregnant with him. He is autistic, does not speak and is hypotonic. Strange Beauty is a tale full of unconditional love and hope, meanings of parenthood, communication and much more.
Ms. Factor created the non-profit Extreme Kids & Crew which runs two play spaces in NYC where families with disabled children can meet and express themselves through the arts. Her discussion will be followed by a book signing.
