Managing Achievement and Anxiety in Students with Learning Differences

Since the diagnosis of Specific Learning Disability (SLD) was introduced in the 1970s, research in psychology and education has dedicated resources to understanding the unique emotional experiences of children with learning issues. While the impact of anxiety on learning more generally has been studied extensively over the past few decades, more recent investigations suggest that that the relationship between these variables is more complex than originally theorized. This workshop will provide a review of the theories of test anxiety, clarify the relationship between anxiety and academic performance, as well as discuss techniques to support these students in the classroom and at home.
Hilary Murphy Ph.D. - is a licensed clinical psychologist and formally trained pediatric neuropsychologist with a specialization in the neuropsychological assessment of neurodevelopmental and neuro-medical disorders working at CNNH NeuroHealth.
